Program Dates: June 12–July 28, 2017
Application Deadline: March 1, 2017
Iowa State University's Institute for Transportation is offering high school teachers the opportunity to participate in a seven week summer research experience. The Research Experiences for Teachers (RET) program provides teachers with new instructional tools, research experiences, and ongoing relationships with engineers that will enable teachers to share the latest developments in STEM with students.
Through this experience teachers will:
Engage in cutting-edge, transportation-related research under the guidance of a faculty mentor and graduate students for approximately 35 hours per week for six weeks.
Develop strong relationships with researchers from Iowa State by having small group discussions about their research and developing strategic partnerships to help bring new ideas into the classroom.
Spend structured time focusing solely on their professional learning along with other colleagues from the RET program. Master teachers will facilitate sessions to help translate summer learning into activities for use in the classroom.
This program is administered through a partnership with the NSF Engineering Center for Biorenewable Chemicals. More information about the program can be found here.
Stipend: $900/week for seven weeks
Travel: up to $500 travel allowance or on-campus housing
Optional participation for two summers
Classroom supplies allowance to incorporate science experience into classroom and curriculum
Graduate credit and license renewal credit available
