About the research

As part of Iowa's growing program to utilize accelerated bridge construction (ABC) technologies and approaches, there are current plans to construct a second-generation of the bridge system originally used on US 92 over Keg Creek. This continued evolution of promising concepts is a demonstration of the Iowa Department of Transportation (DOT) commitment to enhancing bridge construction. As with any concept evolution, several questions have arisen. The purpose of this work is to provide the Iowa DOT with timely answers to several of those questions.
 
The objective of this project is to evaluate the performance of a second-generation ABC bridge that utilizes two types of continuity connections (i.e., the transverse joint at pier diaphragms and the longitudinal joint between precast superstructure/deck units).
