About the research

This project seeks to fuse multiple data sources to collect work zone and traffic data for moving work zones in order to develop a prototype tool that can predict performance measures such as vehicle throughput, travel delays, the length of the queue, and lane-changing behavior. Two approaches will be used to develop the prediction tool. First, collected data will be used to calibrate existing work zone traffic impact analysis tools. Second, a data-driven approach will be used to estimate regression models of work zone performance measures as a function of various independent variables. Finally, a simulation based assessment of the moving work zone impacts will also be pursued.
