Description

The purpose of the 2024 Traffic and Safety Forum is to enable traffic and safety engineering professionals to learn about new and innovative systems and processes, share individual experiences, and collectively address issues of interest. In recent years, representatives have attended from cities, counties, consultants, universities, and the Iowa Department of Transportation (DOT).

Keynote Speaker

Jim Anderson, CEO of BeaconJim Anderson headshot

Jim Anderson is the founder and CEO of Beacon, an A.I. software company that specializes in transportation. Under his leadership, Beacon collaborates with multiple state DOTs, spearheading large-scale technology projects. Beacon is delivering on the goal of making software in government work better.

Jim has bachelor’s and master’s degrees in civil engineering from Georgia Tech, and practiced for nearly a decade with CH2M Hill (now Jacobs). He managed complex, multi-jurisdictional projects for public and private-sector clients nationwide.

In 1997, Jim made the leap into to the software industry, dedicating the last 25 years to leading software development teams and software companies across a range of industries. His portfolio includes work with iconic consumer brands, major media companies, and leading technology giants. He frequently appears on television, most commonly Bloomberg and CNBC, where you may see him talking about artificial intelligence, transportation, and other cutting-edge technology topics.

Jim has been married for 35 years, and engineering runs in the family: his wife is a registered civil engineer and is a Professor of the Practice in Environmental engineering at Georgia Tech. He has three children, including a daughter who is studying engineering Georgia Tech, and a special needs son with Down Syndrome.

Jim Anderson is a visionary leader, celebrated speaker, and tireless advocate for innovation in transportation and technology.
