Alipour named senior fellow at Collegium Helveticum through ETH Zurich

Alice Alipour

Alice Alipour, a structure and infrastructure engineer with the Bridge Engineering Center and associate professor at Iowa State University, was named a 2021 senior fellow at the Collegium Helveticum through ETH Zurich, a public research university in Switzerland that focuses on science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) fields.

Per the college’s website, as a senior fellow at the Collegium Helveticum, Alipour explores innovative, multidisciplinary solutions to transform the safety and performance of critical interdependent infrastructure systems subjected to disruptions induced by natural hazards.

Senior fellows are selected based on their applications detailing how and why they want to engage with and contribute to interdisciplinary exchange. They are selected for a period between 3 and 10 months, during which time they participate in regular jours fixes—a series of presentations and/or discussions that happen on a fixed day every month—and organize an event on the topic of their choice at the Collegium Helveticum.

The Collegium Helveticum is the joint Institute for Advanced Studies (IAS) of the ETH Zurich, the University of Zurich, and the Zurich University of the Arts. It aims to provide a meeting place and forum for dialogue between the humanities, social sciences, physical sciences, engineering, medical science and the arts.
