Congratulations to Eisenhower Fellows Nicole Oneyear and Bennett Stone

Nicole Oneyear. Oneyear is a second-year graduate student supported by the Midwest Transportation Consortium, a U.S. DOT University Transportation Center. She has been awarded a Dwight D. Eisenhower Transportation Fellowship for the 2010–2011 academic year. Oneyear is an involved and energetic MTC student.
She is a young member of the TRB Traffic Law Enforcement Committee and former president of the Transportation Student Association at Iowa State. In fall 2009, she placed second in the combined MTC / Missouri Valley Institute of Transportation Engineers (MOVITE) annual student poster contest with a display of her work on the MTC-funded project evaluating the electronic feedback sign implemented by United Schools District [?] in Iowa.
The Eisenhower Fellowship will help fund Nicole’s evaluation of the Cedar Rapids, Iowa, red-light cameras. Cameras were installed at eight troublesome intersections throughout the city starting in February 2010. Using data collected and provided by the City of Cedar Rapids, the project will evaluate the cameras’ effect on safety at the intersections. The fellowship also allowed Nicole to travel to the Transportation Research Board Annual Meeting in January 2011.
Bennett Stone. Stone is a graduate student concurrently pursuing a master’s degree and doctorate in human-computer interaction (HCI) at Iowa State University. He has been awarded a two-year Eisenhower Fellowship (academic years 2010–2011 and 2011–2012) to assist in the production of Go!, InTrans’s online magazine introducing teenagers to academic and career opportunities in transportation. Stone is the second student at ISU to receive Eisenhower support specifically related to Go!
Using concepts from the HCI program and his experience as a web designer, Stone is enhancing the functionality and interactivity of Go!’s website. Already he has revamped the site, deploying a content management system that allows visitors to access information in a variety of ways.
He has also initiated a more sophisticated system for tracking site visitors and is helping plan and develop other methods for evaluating the site’s effectiveness.
