ITE Midwest Student Leadership Summit to be held September 16-18
Future engineers from across the Midwest will be arriving at Iowa State University this weekend for the first-ever Institute of Transportation Engineers Midwest Student Leadership Summit (ITEMSLS).
Students will be exposed to various activities, speakers, and workshops equipping them with the tools to be leaders in the transportation engineering world.
According to Ellen Nightingale, the current Transportation Student Association (TSA) president, this event has been a long time in the making. The ITEMSLS has one overarching mission: provide student fellowship, professional development, and corporate networking to like-minded students from across the entire Midwest—not just Iowa.
“It will be a gathering of a new generation of leaders,” says Nightingale.
Student-focused sessions include topics like the future of transportation engineering, public speaking and project management, student chapter development, ethics and career advice, and tours of the C6—the Visual Reality Application Center—will be offered to interested attendees.
Plus, speakers like Iowa Department of Transportation (DOT) Director and American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials (AASHTO) President Paul Trombino III and Marsha Bomar, the first female ITE President, will meet and advise attendees on transportation, career success, and how to further ignite their passion for transportation.
This event is hosted by TSA, the award-winning, student-run parent organization of the Iowa State chapters of the Institute of Transportation Engineers and the Intelligent Transportation Systems of America (ITS|A).
