PROSPER’s Ceylan recognized as University of Illinois Distinguished Alumni

Halil CeylanHalil Ceylan, director of the Program for Sustainable Pavement Engineering and Research (PROSPER), received the 2021 Civil and Environmental Engineering Alumni Association Distinguished Alumnus Award from his alma mater, University of Illinois.

Ceylan, who is also a professor in Iowa State University’s Department of Civil, Construction, and Environmental Engineering, earned both his master’s degree and his doctorate in civil engineering from the University of Illinois.

The award, given by the Civil and Environmental Engineering Alumni Association, has a long history of recognizing only the best and most outstanding alumni from the University of Illinois Civil and Environmental Engineering Department.

Typically, the Distinguished Alumni awards are presented along with the Young Alumni Achievement award at a celebration, attended by alumni, students, and faculty, in Chicago. The COVID-19 pandemic prevented a ceremony for 2020 awardees, though the department staff hope to hold the event in fall 2021 to recognize both 2020 and 2021 winners.
