Research Experience for Teachers

The MTC is participating in Research Experience for Teachers, a program offered by ISU’s Center for Biorenewable Chemicals and funded by the National Science Foundation. The program provides an opportunity for public school teachers to work on active projects, building their knowledge base and science/engineering skills, which they can then use in their own classrooms.

During summer 2015, MTC director Shauna Hallmark and faculty affiliate Peter Savolainen hosted two high school teachers for six weeks. Craig Mohr, chemistry/physics teacher at Southeast Polk High School, worked on Hallmark’s project evaluating safety-related effects of an intersection conflict warning system. Nick Crosse, technology/engineering teacher at Johnston High School, worked on an engineering course curriculum with Savoleinen.
