Deadman Anchoring Guide

Simplified design charts are presented for use in determining the minimum requirements for a buried log used as a deadman anchor for a skyline logging system. Required data are the cable tension, direction of pull, and soil conditions at the anchor site. Three modes of failure are considered: log pullout, based on the allowable passive resistance of the soil; log flexure; and log shear. A suggested “longhand” analysis procedure for verifying the chart solutions is included.
