Stress Laminated Metal Plate Connected Truss Bridges
This thesis addresses a new stress laminated system which uses Metal Plate Connector (MPC) trusses. To investigate the stress laminated truss system, a research program was undertaken at the University of Maine. The objectives of this research were to: (1) Determine the effect of prestress level on bridge performance, (2) Determine the accuracy of the AASHTO 45 degree load distribution model which is intended for stress-laminated solid decks when it is applied to stress-laminted trusses, (3) Design, construct, and evaluate full scale stress laminated bridges, (4) Identify design details which will insure ease of construction and durablity.
