The Federal Highway Administration (FHWA), as directed by the Intermodal Surface Transportation Efficiency Act (ISTEA) of 1991, Section 1039, is addressing the Highway Timber Bridge Research and Demonstration Program. Funding for the program is being made available for six years. The program, in its sixth year of funding, is being coordinated between the FHWA‰Ûªs Office of Engineering, the Office of Engineering Research and Development, and the Office of Technology Applications. This paper presents an overview of the program.
