About the research

Objective
This project sought to determine the accuracy and variation in readings of various pavement temperature sensors, both in-pavement and mobile, by first developing a method to determine the “true” pavement temperature for comparison purposes. In the past, there have been studies comparing accuracy of various devices, but none of them have included a method of determining true readings. The final report for this project includes descriptions of how well various sensors performed under various conditions. This project sought to determine the accuracy and variation in readings of various pavement temperature sensors, both in-pavement and mobile, by first developing a method to determine the “true” pavement temperature for comparison purposes.
