About the research
Roundabout construction has taken off in the U.S. over the last decade and will continue to increase as its popularity among local officials and public works engineers grows. Clear and concise warrants are necessary such that the correct engineering solution is implemented for a given set of conditions in a given environment. Requiring a roundabout at a location where a better solution is available will not only be a detriment to the transportation users but will provide evidence to opponents of roundabout implementation. Researchers will review existing warrants for roundabouts in the U.S. as well as other countries and gather data from jurisdictions with more experience in roundabout implementation through direct contact with appropriate staff.
