February 17 Tom Maze seminar to feature Cara Hamann, UI faculty associate in epidemiology
The Tom Maze Transportation Seminar this week will feature Cara Hamann, a faculty associate in the Department of Epidemiology at the University of Iowa. Dr. Hamann also conducts research at the University of Iowa Injury Prevention Research Center.
Her main research interest is in transportation safety, with a focus on vulnerable and high-risk road users, including bicyclists, pedestrians, and novice drivers. Her work includes studies of adult and child bicyclist risk exposure, examination of justice data on charges and convictions of drivers who have hit bicyclists or pedestrians, and use of virtual environments to study driver behavior. She is also involved in teen driver safety and child passenger restraint research and is active in outreach and advocacy related to vulnerable road user safety.
Hamann’s presentation is entitled “Naturalistic and virtual approaches to studying bicyclist risk exposure.” She will be presenting live between 11:00 a.m. and noon from Iowa State University’s Institute for Transportation.
