Analytical modeling and preprocessor development of stress-laminated timber deck bridges
The objectives of this study were three-fold:
1. To study the most efficient modelign of a timber bridge for the finite element analysis. The finite element model must include all bridge components that contribute to the structural behavior of the bridge.
2. To delevelop user friendly pre- and post-processors for use in conjunction with the general-purpose ANSYS software to model and analyze right-angled and skew stress-laminated bridges. The main requirements fo the programs were that they should have minimum user input and also not require an in-depth knowledge of the finite element method.
3. to perform a parametric study to investigate the sensitivity of analytical results in stress-laminated timber deck bridges due to varying materials properties, end-restraints, and the manner in which loads are applied int eh model. The effect of curbs was alos studied.
The above objectives were accomplished by analyzing thress right-angled and one skew bridge.
