About the research

Cold in-place recycling (CIR) has been a cost-effective rehabilitation treatment and while many Iowa CIR roadways have performed well, there have been instances of early failures and under performance. This project leverages past CIR research in Iowa to update expected performance of CIR, identify under-performing roadways and investigate factors that contribute to under performance. Materials from excellent and under-performing roadways will be tested, analyzed, and results presented. The key deliverables for this project include a stand-alone guidance for CIR project selection guidance, and a tool to evaluate the cost-effectiveness of a CIR pavement rehabilitation alternative.
